What does it take for a book to be classified into the “coffee table” book category. Does it have to be as small as the coffee table? Does it have to talk about coffee? Is it supposed to be hard bound? Does it need to have pictures? Can all books be a coffee table book, or is there a strict requirement that you should follow? If you have a book of quotes, would that qualify for the category?
Actually, there really is no “strict” rule that defines whether a book is can be put on top of your coffee table or not. You can put an encyclopedia there and since it is your home or your office, it would not matter. However, the idea of coffee table books is for you to provide visitors who will be staying at your receiving area with a means to amuse themselves, through books. Novels would not be good coffee table books, unless you are expecting visitors who will be staying at the living area for hours to a day, but that is impossible. Therefore, you need to pick books that people can finish reading, or browsing through, in one seating.
You can pick books with pictures, books that feature certain things, and you can put a book of inspirational quotes. Reading a quote can easily change the mood of a person. Especially if you are able to touch a specific part of that person’s heart with a mixture of words, then the famous quotes will be more than just famous, it will be powerful. As a coffee table book, it is perfect because quotes do not really take up much space. One can sit down read through some and it does not matter if that person is able to finish the entire collection or not.
